Signature Verification and Fraud Detection Overview

This practical training course equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to examine signatures, identify suspicious characteristics, and detect potential forgery or document fraud. It covers signature-writing principles, comparison techniques, common forgery methods, document examination procedures, fraud indicators, evidence handling, and proper reporting.

The course is designed for employees who review signed documents, financial transactions, applications, contracts, claims, and other records requiring signature authentication. It supports operational risk management but does not qualify participants as forensic document examiners or replace laboratory examination and expert testimony.

Prerequisites 

       No formal forensic-document examination experience is required. Participants should preferably have:

  • Basic experience reviewing forms, signatures, or transactional documents
  • Familiarity with their organization’s approval and verification procedures
  • Basic knowledge of fraud-risk and confidentiality requirements
  • Sample anonymized documents or signatures for workshop exercises, where permitted
  • Sensitive personal and client information must be removed from all training samples.
