This course develops the foundational skills needed to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux systems. Participants learn command-line operations, software management, storage administration, shell scripting, networking, and essential security practices across common Linux distributions.

The course is aligned with LPIC-1 version 5.0, covering exams 101-500 and 102-500.

  • Debian and RPM package tools: APT, YUM, DNF, and Zypper.
  • Shared libraries and dependencies.
  • Virtual machines, containers, and Linux guest considerations.

 Day 3 — Module 3: Command-Line and Text Processing

  • Bash commands, variables, quoting, and documentation.
  • File operations, searches, archives, and compression.
  • Streams, pipes, redirection, and filters.
  • Regular expressions and editing with vi.

 Day 4 — Module 4: Processes and Storage Administration

  • Process monitoring, signals, priorities, and job control.
  • Terminal multiplexers.
  • Partitions, filesystems, and swap.
  • Mounting, persistent mounts, integrity checks, and disk usage.

 Day 5 — Module 5: File Access and Filesystem Organization

  • Ownership, permissions, and default access masks.
  • Special permission bits.
  • Hard and symbolic links.
  • Filesystem hierarchy and locating system files.

Day 6 — Module 6: Shell Customization and Scripting

  • Shell profiles, aliases, functions, and environment settings.
  • Script interpreters, arguments, and user input.
  • Conditions, loops, command substitution, and exit codes.
  • Automating routine administration.

 Day 7 — Module 7: Accounts and Administrative Scheduling

  • User and group creation, modification, and removal.
  • Account databases, passwords, and account expiration.
  • Scheduling with cron, at, and systemd timers.
  • Locales, character encodings, and time zones.

 Day 8 — Module 8: Essential System Services

  • Clock synchronization using NTP and chrony.
  • System journals, rsyslog, and log rotation.
  • Mail transfer concepts, aliases, forwarding, and queues.
  • CUPS printers and print jobs.

 Day 9 — Module 9: Networking Configuration and Troubleshooting

  • IPv4, IPv6, subnetting, protocols, and ports.
  • Persistent wired and wireless network settings.
  • Hostnames, DNS resolution, and client configuration.
  • Diagnosing interface, routing, and connectivity problems.

 Day 10 — Module 10: Desktop Environments and System Security

  • X11 configuration, display managers, and Wayland concepts.
  • Graphical desktops, remote desktop protocols, and accessibility.
  • Privilege delegation, password policies, and resource limits.
  • Service exposure and basic host security.
  • SSH keys, secure connections, and GnuPG encryption.
